About Us

Our beautiful cottages and land were originally part of Mainsfield Farm built in 1629. It had originally been a working farm & dairy, however, after years of neglect the buildings had become derelict.

The cottages and grounds have undergone a 5 year, £1.2 million restoration & refurbishment program now providing luxury accommodation. This has been achieved by using as much of the original stonework and materials as possible.  We faced various challenges during the restoration:  6 months to carry out bat surveys, delays whilst various birds finished nesting in order not to disturb their nesting sites. Finally Covid struck part way through the build resulting in difficulty obtaining materials, so all in all it has certainly been a labour of love.

We named the cottages after the birds which were nesting in or near the buildings, Wagtail/Swallow/Peewit & Barn Owl.  Red Kite Cottage was a new build, completed in 2024 but was built on the footprint of the old agricultural barn, which was too badly damaged to save. The Red Kites come over the building almost every day and you can often see them hunting for prey in the fields.

Our Barn Owl was moved (By the Owl Society) to her new home behind the patio, you will often see her flying over the fields at dawn or dusk.  She has successfully raised 3-4 chicks each season.  The Owl Society come out and check on her progress every year and they are kind enough to supply us with photo’s.

We share our land with our three girls:

  • Elsa (Shetland pony)
  • Tinkerbell (Miniture Apaloosa)
  • Snowball (White Donkey)

They are all rescues and although they had a bad start to life, they are now spoilt, well looked after, happy and safe.
